A day and evening of festivities, art, music, celebration, fun, marionettes, food, dancing, performances, and community spirit in the Pasadena Playhouse District. Intersection - A Playhouse District Festival

On the last Saturday of a hot summer in August, we celebrated with music & art at the block of Colorado & El Molino. It's a free end-of-the summer street party suitable for the whole family. Live music. Interactive art. Food Trucks. Crowd danced to live Music performances by Kan Wakan, The Dead Ships, Givers & Takers, Racquet, Susy Sun & The Brosquitos. Julia from Pasadena Walking Tour and Mo from Lyd & Mo Photography guided festival goers on tours of public art installation in the Playhouse District. In spite of the heat, it was a great tour experience to learn about the art in our district as well as composition in photography. We ended our tours at Lyd & Mo Photography flower wall after visiting Pasadena Playhouse, Wings at Pasadena Children Museum, garage at Pasadena Museum of the Arts and so much more.

Time to explore the interactive art at the block. Lots of activities to get your hands dirty. Hand print mural for kids led by the Southern California Children's Museum. Chalk art mural with Light Bringer Project. Flower making with Pasadena Museum of California's Art. Armory Center for the Arts "Collapse Construction" provided shapes and tubes to make your own sculpture to build, collapse and build again. Paint in Virtual Reality at Surrogate Gallery while others see your artwork come to life on screen. Listen to the 'optical sound' of kinetic ribbons by Side Street Projects. Other booths included Pasadena Museum of History. Ronin Leather, Tales of a Rugged Doll, Viling designs, and more. And those red chairs! So much fun!

Dine the District 2017

Did you miss the Dine the District last week? It was sold out! Those lucky tickets holder enjoyed a tasty experience and an evening fillrf with delicious local, traditional and international restaurants in the Pasadena Playhouse District.

Participating locations included El Portal Restaurant, The Stand Pasadena, Roy’s Pasadena, Braise & Crumble, Foodie Cube, Round’s Burgers, Zona Rosa Caffe, Monopole Wine, The Next Chapter, Settebello Pizzeria, Lovebirds Cafe and more!

Good food, good fun, what more can you ask for. If you didn't make it this year, we'll see you next year.

Another awesome event with 4 featured local artists last night at Lyd & Mo Photography in Pasadena. Big shout out to our sub-host Veronica An. Artists included Michele Vreeland, Michelle Rapajic, The Nguyen Twins (Kitty & Celina) and Dana W Carter. It was another successful live music showcase. Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Inaugural Gala 2017

On Friday, July 7, Chamber members, community leaders and guests gathered at Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena. The evening started with live jazz by Art Deco Entertainment, and those amazingly delicious hors d'oeuvres from the Langham. Over 90 silent auctions items were available for bids. The Chamber celebrated the installation of Robin McCarthy as the Chair of the Board for 2017-2018, installed new officers and board members, and scholarships were awarded to local students. Corporate Citizen of the Year were AJ Longo & Associates and Villa Gardens. The Langham served a wonderful dinner enjoyed by all. Big shout out to the Langham and staff for such warm hospitality. Paul Little, president of the Pasadena Chamber, served as the gala emcee. Thanks to all who attended. We'll see you all next year!

The Broad Museum Visit

The Broad Museum is one of our favorite contemporary art museums in downtown Los Angeles with over 120,000 square feet of space. The museum was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, who have made their life mission to bring art, science and education to the public.

The Broad Museum is always free with reservation online. We had great fun exploring the stunning collection of arts including featured artwork from Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Kara Walker, and so many more. Don't forget to check out the Infinite Mirrored Room before tickets are sold out.

DTLA has so much art and beauty to offer. We ended our day at The Last Bookstore. Take a day to enjoy the beauty of arts in DTLA!

Playhouse District Taste of Pasadena Bike Ride

A wonderful spring evening biking in the Playhouse District! On Tuesday, May 16th the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition and BikeSGV hosted a two-wheeled “Taste of Pasadena,” in collaboration with Metro Los Angeles and the Pasadena Playhouse District Association. It featured several local Playhouse District restaurants including Tarantino's Pizzeria, The Stand, Yahaira's Cafe, and Urth Caffe. And our favorite part of the evening, group photos at the Pasadena City Hall.

BikeSGV's mission is to support a more bicycle, pedestrian and transit-friendly San Gabriel Valley.

2017 National Letter Carrier Food Drive

Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive is the nation's largest one-day food collection event. In San Gabriel Valley, volunteers from vairous local cities such as Altadena, Pasadena, Monrovia, Duarte, San Marino, Arcadia and Sierra Madre were busy sorting food collected from the mail carriers and loading them onto Foothill Unity Center trucks.

Our family got a chance to help out at the Pasadena Post Office as one of those volunteers. We had so much fun sorting. Thank you Foothill Unity Center for such a great event and making positive impact 24/7. (foothillunitycenter.org)

We spent a beautiful sunny April afternoon photographing at Brookside Golf Club for their 2017 VIP Golf Tournament. It was the best afternoon for golfing and client appreciation in Pasadena. We met some wonderful people. We raced through the golf course, top speed on the golf cart. And we captured many Golf Digest worthy cover photos. We are so fortunate to with the best team at Brookside Golf Club, Nicole, Christin and Sarah. Looking forward to more events and weddings at the best golf club in Pasadena. Another successful event on the books for Pasadena Playhouse District. Last Saturday Wine Walk was a sold-out event with over 200 guests enjoyed wine tastings at various participating business in the Playhouse District. Patioworld, Basecamp Fitness, Galerie Gabrie, Mark Piscitelli, Monopole Wine, Red White+Bluezz, Regency Studios, Style Lounge, The Next Chapter, The Stand, Vanessa's Cafe, VP Salon Orangic, Zona Rosa Cafe. Wine enthusiasts started their swirl, sip and stroll adventure at the Playhouse Plaza courtyard. All guests received a commemorative wine glass for sampling around Pasadena Playhouse District. Rose Parade 2017

On January 2, 2017, Lyd & Mo collaborated with Pasadena Now to bring viewers the latest news coverage of the Rose Parade. What a beautiful beginning to a fabulous year of 2017! We got up really early, talked to people camping out on Colorado Blvd, walked by the 5am rehearsal and met many bands lining up on Del Mar fighting the cold in great spirit. Saw & shared a video on the B-2 Bomber (if you miss it, check out Lydandmo Facebook page). We got up close and took pictures & videos of the floats, crowds and protestors. We must say, we had so much fun. Thank you, Pasadena Now for such a wonderful opportunity.

Wine Winter Wonderland 2016

2nd Annual Wine Winter Wonderland 2016 at DusitD2 Hotel Constance, Pasadena, CA

Truly a night to remember at DusitD2 Hotel Constance last Saturday. Hotel was magically transformed to a Winter Wonderland with balloons, snowflakes and a gorgeous Christmas Tree greeting all the guests.

Started the evening with freshly made steamed dumplings, both the traditional and the very popular squid dumplings. Out on the patio, handcrafted prime rib by Chef Claud Beltran Bacchus Kitchen, top off with live Jazz music. Throughout the evening, continuous serving of delicious food. World Taco station by the Eatery. Sushi, mini reuben sandwiches, coconut shrimp, veggie rolls, duck spring rolls, potstickers, edamame salad and many more by Perry's. Paired with choices of red wines, white wines, sparkling, and beers. What a perfect evening!

We had so much fun photographing the event and met so many new friends in our community. Our thanks to Mr. Pasadena & DusitD2 Hotel. Looking forward to next year Wine Winter Wonderland.

Playhouse District's 11th Annual ARTWalk

Last Saturday, we joined forces with so many great local artists on Colorado Blvd at the annual Pasadena Art Walk. Live music and performance, hands-on activities, canvas painting, discounts from local restaurants. In the evening, we headed over to Zona Rosa Cafe for their celebration of Dia De Los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). More live music, puppet show, face painting, arts and crafts, and great food. Alice in Wonderland (Vegan) Tea Party at Green Menu

A good tea party is hard to find, a vegan tea party right here in San Gabriel Valley is a treat to all vegan and vegetarian lovers. Green Menu, located at 560 S Main Street, Alhambra, hosts a tea party every month. This month's theme is Alice in Wonderland. The whole forest and all the flowers spoke to us. It was magical.

What's a good tea party without Mad Hatter, the Rabbit and delicious food! Our menu included caterpillar sushi, mushroom salad, cauliflower. Desert with colorful moon cake, berry tart and butterfly cookies. All vegan.

Third Annual Taste of Pasadena

2016 Taste of Pasadena happened on September 21 at the Rose Bowl Stadium, hosted by Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Over 20 restaurants participated, including Alondra Hot Wings, Cabrera's Restaurant, California Pizza Kitchen, Copenhagen Pastry, El Cholo, Clearman's Galley, Lucky Baldwins Pub, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pasadena Sandwich Company, POP Champagne and Dessert Bar, Simply Cupcakes of Pasadena and Stonefire Grill. So many delicious food to sample. Everyone had a fabulous time.

Also, congrats to Ruth's Chris Steak House for winner the Sip-tember, Pasadena's Favorite Cocktail 2016.

Lastly, special thanks to Paul Little at Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Pasadena.

The Long Table: A Playhouse District Food & Wine Celebration

Lyd & Mo are honored to photograph this year Long Table at Playhouse District, Pasadena. What a beautiful summer evening celebration with friends under the shade of Green Street! Beautiful centerprieces by Jacob Maarse Florists.

The evening was kicked off with wine & cheese. Wine selection provided by Monopole Wine. Evening accompanied by jazz played by The David Minasian Trio and Artyom Manukyan, presented by Minasian & Associates. The famous Mr. Pasadena was our Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

And the mouthwatering food! Appetizers included Duck Spring Rolls and vegetarian rolls by Perry's at dusitD2 Hotel Constance. Followed by Mediterranean Salad by Avanti Café with special apple-lime dressing.

Destination: A Little Surfing and a Wedding

Tronconnes, Mexico, is a sleepy surfside village on the Pacific coast, north of Acapulco. The village is mostly dirt roads, small family markets, a handful of beachside inns and bungalows, and lots of waves. Perfect for the many Southern California surfers who frequent this scenic stretch of sand to enjoy the best waves south of the boarder and the most premium Mexican beers that very few have heard of.

Arriving at the Airport, we were met by dozens of taxi drivers eager to take us to the small village. It was a bumpy and dusty forty-five minute drive from the small local airport; quite a contrast to LAX, where we had departed only a few hours earlier. Destination weddings are always adventurous and exciting, what’s not to love?

Just after checking in to the quaint and colorful bungalow, already there was plenty to photograph under the Mexican moon. The waves crashed on the red rocks at the shoreline as family and friends gathered to toast well wishes to the couple, dance to live music, and enjoy the warm summer evening. Waiters served h'ordevors and drinks as the five-piece band of acoustic guitars, violins and string harp played well into the night. It was Kristen and Brian’s pre-wedding bash. Away from the veranda party, a few couples walked hand in hand on the nearly isolated shore, held each other against the deep blue sky, the music playing in the distance.

The day of the wedding was full of excitement and nervous energy. Last minute preparations and a few drinks for the groomsmen. High-fives, hugging, warm laughter, and still a few waves to be caught before the ceremony. The staff at the hotel kept busy setting the tables, hanging the lanterns, finishing the cake, decorating the canopy with flowers of violet and blue, and the musicians were tuning up and practicing songs of Mexican folk and mariachi music, dressed in casual attire, ready for the outdoor reception under the big blue sky.

It was show time. The sun was bright and warm. The groom and his groomsmen lined up on the sand under the beautiful canopy, adorned with flowers and vines, the drapes dancing in the sea breeze. With grace and casual laughter, the bride came down the stairs in her white gown, her father waiting at the foot of the steps to take her down the aisle, now a delicate and fluffy carpet of pink, violet and blue flower petals. Her long hair tied back, her bouquet held elegantly at her side, she joined her husband under the canopy and they exchanged vows with beautiful words of love, harmony and happiness. After an elegant kiss and wonderful cheers from the guests, they walked down the aisle as husband and wife.
